Amritsar is a city in the Indian state of Punjab. It is a holy city for Sikhs and Hindus. The city has many tourist attractions like Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, Fort Gobindgarh, and Sri Harmandir Sahib.
Fort Gobindgarh is a historical place in Amritsar. It was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in 1805 and is situated on the foothills of the Shivalik range near Amritsar (heart of the city). The fort was named after his son, Gobind Singh. It is also known as "Ranjit Garh" or "Ranjit ki Garhi".
It is one of the largest forts in India. It was originally a mud fort but now it has been converted into a beautiful palace with sprawling lawns and gardens. The construction of this fort took place during 1760-to 1764 AD and it is believed that more than 10,000 people were involved in its construction.
The Fort has an also art gallery, which showcases the paintings done by artists from all over India and abroad. The fort has two gates - one facing towards the city and the other facing towards the lake. There are two tanks inside the fort which supply water to it during the summer season and also act as a defence mechanism against enemy attacks.
Moreover, many events & parties take place there. There are numerous food stalls that you cannot miss eating. Everyone must visit once Fort Gobindgarh- one of the historical places in Amritsar.
